# Customers and properties explained

> Learn which information belongs on a customer and which belongs on a service property.

Keep commercial information on the customer and location-specific information on the property. This lets one customer receive different services at several addresses without duplicating the customer relationship.

## What happens when you create a customer

Sweeply creates an initial property from the customer's billing address. If the service location differs, edit that property or add another property before creating work.

## One customer with several locations

Create a separate property for every distinct service location. Orders and subscriptions then point to the correct address, notes, images, and requirements while sharing the same customer contact and billing preferences.

## When information changes

* Update the **customer** when contact, billing, company, language, invoicing, or notification information changes.
* Update the **property** when the service address, access instructions, planning coordinates, images, or visit requirements change.
* Update the **order** for a one-time change to one visit.
* Update the **subscription** when future recurring visits should change.

<Warning>
  Changing a billing address does not mean every service property should move. Review the customer's properties separately.
