# Understand planned and unplanned orders

> Learn how target weeks, schedules, and route positions determine where an order appears.

An unplanned order is still valid work. It belongs to a target week but does not yet have an assigned member, start, and end time.

## Unplanned order

An unplanned order has:

* A planning target week
* No scheduled start or end
* No scheduled member or route position

It appears in that week's unplanned work list until Planning or an operator assigns it.

## Scheduled order

A scheduled order has:

* An assigned team member
* A scheduled start and end
* A position in the member's route
* Travel information when available

Once scheduled, the scheduled date—not the original target week—determines which planning week contains the order.

## Move unplanned work between weeks

Use the move action in Planning to change an already unplanned order's target week. This does not need to release a schedule because none exists.

## Return scheduled work to unplanned

Use **Reschedule** to clear the current assignment and place the order in a selected target week. Protected visits require confirmation and a reason.

<Note>
  **Unplanned** does not mean cancelled, missing, or available for any week. It means the active order still needs a valid assignment inside its current target week.
